  • DF 50 overheating

Need help with a 2006 Suzuki DF 50 HP outboard. The problem is that it won't pump water and overheats.

So far, I've tried the following:
    - impeller replaced (and direction verified?
    - Thermostat replaced
    - all rubber hoses removed and checked for blockages
    - engine flushed backwards from the thermostat housing, and it's clear
    - pilot hole checked and clear

Not sure what else is left??? Help?

    - side note: chapter 7 of the service manual is missing, which is the midunit section, possibly showing a pressure valve I can't find.

Did it stop pumping water before you changed the impeller or after

Before....And the overheat alarm goes off. I've tried everything to get it working.

Maybe the water pump case (#1) has a crack or not sealing correctly. Did you also replace the gaskets (#5) and water pump case seal (#2)?

I did replace the plate and gasket. And I looked at the housing but didn't notice any cracks. No luck there.

Thank you everyone for all the help. I think I finally got it fixed. Turns out the engine won't run off of earmuffs. I had to buy a 20 gallon trash can and 6 gallons of vinegar. But I got it running and water is now flowing. I ran it for about an hour without it overheating.

If you want to use muffs, use the small, round, soft ones. They are the only variety that works well with our Suzukis of all horsepower.
