  • Check your water jacket Anodes!

    I have a 2011 DF-175 w/700hrs used in the Salt Only, freshwater flushed 99%
of the time. During the last (700hr) oil change I pulled the upper most anode
on the exh. cover, about 75% gone! I changed all 6. I will start checking these
@ 200hrs or so. I did switch to a Zinc anode from the Alu. it came with.
Love this engine!! so far 0 problems!!

Here is a very good article on the types of anodes and where to use the different metal types
    Worth reading

Yes, servicing the internal anodes is an important requirement that many people seem to neglect.

I believe that it is actually something that is listed in the owners manual to be checked every 100 hours. I certainly check mine annually or every 100 hours. Easy to do.

Any, yes, that is a very informative article, Art, thanks for posting the link.

        Aluminium anodes win!

The link and the credit for this came from Bill2462 not too long ago
Ends up Bill lives here in Oregon not too far away from where I live
He did the research and told me he was able to get the aluminum anodes through a local marine supply store

I would stick with the aluminum anodes for the internals... more effective than zinc in the job they're required to do. In addition to checking for amount of metal sacrificed, it's a good idea to clean them off with a brush. A buildup of aluminum salts reduces the effectiveness. I check and clean mine every 100 hours or so.

Just a quick addition to Arts post, the aluminum anodes came from Martyr Anodes but they wouldn't sell them to me directly. Suzuki apparently doesn't make aluminum anodes for the lower unit of my DF175. One of the local dealers ordered them for me from Martyr Anodes.
