Mate Rod and i have gone shares in a tinny that we have to set up for river and estuary fishing and prawning (cast netting for prawns or as you call them, shrimps).
Its an oldie but in great condition alloy 14 footer, V nose punt style. Weve had flat floors and casting decks added, rewired, fitted a bow mount electric trolling motor and rebuilt the trailer suspension. Rod had a Lowrance Global Map GPS and i had a HDS 5 x sounder left over from recent upgrades to the bigger boats so they have now been installed in the tinny to provide the technology platform.
The boat came with a 1995 Johnson 25 hp, which is also in great condition but was a bit slow for us, especially with the extra decks and floors adding quite a bit of weight to the boat.
So i asked my mate Jon who is also our local Zuke dealer to keep an eye out for a good used 40hp for us. The 40 is the max rated hp for the hull.
He called up yesterday to say he was trading in a 40 tiller steer with all options for a long term customer who wanted to upgrade to a 60. He had sold the motor and serviced it since new for this customer so knew it was in excellent condition.
So i went and had a look today, it was truly in mint condition.
240 hours, sold in Sept 2013 and has balance of the Suzuki factory 5 year warranty that is standard here in Aus. Its electric start, PTT, lean burn model, and has the premium tiller arm with LED tacho and warning lights built in, as well as troll mode.
We picked it up for about 60% of the cost of a new one. $4750. New sell for over $8K here. He will install it for us in a week or so, just in time for our planned trip to chase some barramundi in a river a few hours north of here - they are firing there at the moment, ive never caught one so hope to tick it off the bucket list.
So looking forward to giving it a run and seeing how well the little tinny goes with 40 of Mr Suzuki's best horses on the transom.
