The bolt that holds the steering tiller arm to the engine (one on each side)broke off right under the nut so the bolt is too short. How do I access the front of the bolt to replace it. It appears to be about 2 inches lower than the bottom of the engine compartment IMG_0371.jpgý (395 KBý).url

I used a 1998 motor, as you didn't post what year your motor is?
That bolt looks like the swivel bracket to engine holder bolt (09100-12048) BOLT, part #7 on the engine holder page:
http://www.boats.net/parts/search/Su...8/DT225/ENGINE HOLDER/parts.html
To replace that bolt, it appears from the parts diagram, that you would need to remove the entire powerhead and lower engine cowling to access those bolts. Someone else might respond if they have more knowledge, but in over 50 years of being around motors, I have never seen either of those bolts break off, until now. You should have a service manual before attempting that work.
Good luck.

Yes that is the correct bolt...its a 2003. I found the nut in the pile of grease that popped out of the swivel shaft. the dome nut had about 1/8 inch of bolt sticking out. It sheared so cleanly I didn't notice. so the power head has to come off...it figures. Im an airline mechanic so I can do the job ...just don't want any of those corroded 15 year old bolts snapping on me
