  • Beep and no crank df140, 07

Tried to fish today but engine did nothing. DF140. The neutral switch was good. White wire good, as when key is on position, i unplugged whit wire at motor and reconnecting made it beep.
How do i check kill switch cord. Can it be bypassed (jumper wired) to check?

Mate there is two neutral switches, one in the binnacle and one on the motor, if the kill switch was shorted it would crank but not start. Pull the cowl off and have a look where the shift cables are and make sure the switch is closed in neutral. hook up a test light and get someone to hold the key in the start position and you should have battery voltage on both sides of the switch, if you haven't there is a problem at the switch, If you have and it still wont crank go around the other side of the motor and pull the plastic cover off the ecu and move it out the way and you will see the starter relay on the left you should have voltage on a yellow and green wire going into the relay and battery voltage coming out on a red wire to the starter if the relay is working in the start position. Let us know how you go, this problem will be easy to solve.

On the early engines the starter relay coil is earthed on the block, so even if the kill switch plate was removed it would still crank and not start. On late engines the relay coil is grounded inside the ecu, so it might not crank if the stop plate was out. I will try that test in the next couple of days.

            Yep, neutral switch on motor

It aapears that the neutral switch was open. The waterproofing hose that cables are inside was askew last time i was cleaning up engine. I unbolted the rubber cable position holder (?) and it must have moved cable end too far away from proper switch location. It must have caused cable to push switch away from correct position. A little adjustment and viola. For some reason when i looked at that switch at boat ramp i thought it started in open position, which it was in. Now closed at neutral, on the binnacle, vroom. Sweet
            Thanks
