No telltale stream from Df140

I have twin 2006 DF140s on my Seacat 226DC. The port engine stopped emitting a a telltale stream. I have attempted to back flush through telltale port (water pours out of lower unit ports and prop)
, snaked 2+ feet of 100 lb mono into telltale port, replaced thermostat and water pump impeller, swapped water pressure valves between engines with no success. Any suggestions?

The water ejected from the telltale does not go through the water jacket of the engine. So it cannot be considered to be a reliable indicator of adequate engine cooling. In other words, you can have a strong stream and still overheat the engine, due to bad thermostat, bad pressure valve or blockages in the water jacket itself. The only indication that the telltale provides is that the water pump is functioning. The water that is ejected from the telltale has taken a very short route from the water pump. It goes from the pump, through the oil cooler, and out the telltale.

What we can surmise from this is that the inverse is also true. If your outboard shows no indication of over heating, yet there is little or no water coming out the telltale, the problem is likely to be a blockage in the telltale route itself, either before the oil cooler, at/within the oil cooler or between the oil cooler and the telltale outlet. The use of a heavy monofilament probe, compressed air, reverse water jet, etc, might dislodge a blockage, and it may not. It might require a little teardown to find the culprit. Still, solutions to the problem of no telltale stream on an otherwise adequately cooled engine block should concentrate on the telltale system, and not on the engine cooling system components like thermostats or water pressure valves.

I assume you already pulled the little plug and blow in it reverse to get the pebble outshould take 10 sec . most of engine hot water comes out of center hub on prop see if it is hot and water pumps last a long time 300hrs or so but remove the lower unit bolts and put never seize on it every 100hrs in salt water environment or they will break off while trying to open it. you have hot engine and hot exhaust sensor and if your engine gets hot the valves will clatter and make extra loud noise without damaging the engine or at least that's what happens in car engine which is what df 140 could be ..
