Hi, new guy here. Just took delivery of a DF2.5 for my Jackson Big Rig fishing kayak. Can't wait for the weather to warm up so I can see how it does.

The search feature doesn't want to work on my phone, so forgive me if this has been beaten to death already.

I've read in several places that these are shipped really lean to make emissions and some are rejetting their carbs to a #34 pilot jet and a #66 main to make it run like it's supposed to. How common is this problem?

Second question is about availability of aftermarket props. I have found a grand total of none. I wonder if people bother playing with prop pitch to put their rpms in the middle of the power band like is done with the bigger engines.

    Thanks
    Ian

Anyone know if a DF4 prop will mount to the 2.5? Looks to be essentially the same diameter with an inch more pitch.

Edit.... no, different diameter prop shaft.

Cant help you with the carby issue.

Re the prop, not sure what you mean about pitching the prop so its in the middle of the power band?

I have noticed that some US boats seem to be overpropped, under the mistaken idea that propping the boat to lower the revs in the crusing speed range somehow is a good idea.

If that is what you mean, it isnt a good idea at all, it results in the engine lugging.

Your new Suzuki engine, in fact any outboard engine, should be propped so that it can reach its max recommended rpm at wide open throttle (or very close to that). Even though you may never run it at WOT, it is important for the engines overall gearing for it to be able to reach that rpm.

Setting it like that will give you the best fuel economy and speed at cruise rpm and the best acceleration.
