Lower Unit Interchange??

Will the lower unit from a 1982 DT85 fit on a 1992 DT85??

When looking up part #'s they list differently, but exploded
views of each one look very similar. I don't want to buy the
1982 one (available very reasonably priced) and then find out
it isn't compatible with my 1992 model.

Generally if you look up part numbers in the parts list, at the far right it should tell you if it is different for later motors. If you click on the part numbers for the lower cases, it should tell you what years, and motors, that part number fits. If the part numbers are different, then some changes were made in those years, and you should go with the year of your actual part. Don't try to go the cheaper route, it will probably be a poor decision, because of some design changes.

I say not - I can put a lower unit in less than 20 min may be you could do it right at the spot and say I buy it if I can try it first . .good luck
