I have a 200 df 70 that has started to leak engine oil not lower unit oil out of the exhaust at the prop. What started as a slow leak has now gotten worse. The engine has probably around 4,000 hours on it and i am at a loss as to where this oil is coming from and if the cost to fix it is worth it. Any help would be appreciated.

If oil is coming out the exhaust at the prop hub, how have you determined that it's engine oil and not gear oil? Can I assume that you mean that you can see actual drops of liquid oil and not just a film? If so, is this oil clear or frothy? Clean or dirty? Is there any indication of oil at the auxiliary exhaust outlet above the prop? And lastly, is oil continuing to leak with the engine sitting or does this occur only during engine operation?Mike

It is without a doubt engine oil and it drips out of the exhaust at the prop when out of the water. Oil is neither frothy or milky and looks just like engine oil would with a hundred hours or so on it. Also i have to add oil to the motor and the oil on the dipstick is not milky like it would be if it had water in it.One mechanic without looking at the motor has suggested oil pump seal??????

While I'm not familiar with the DF70, there are enough posts here, and many of them recent posts, from owners of all different size motors, indicating corrosion in the oil pan as the culprit. Or your mechanic might be right. But I'd lean more toward the corrosion scenario causing a hole in the pan. In either case, the power head will have to be lifted to find out for sure.Mike
