Df 90 prop shaft replacement

Hit something in seven foot of water, prop shaft bent not in K but more like 1/2" !!! Replacing the prop shaft, i pulled the carrier and the shaft is still in the case. I tried removing the shift 3 bolt housing and it only seperated maybee 1/8"
What am I doing wrong?

shift shaft has to come out first. must be in neutral . should be able to push the cluchdog back for neutral.if you didn't break anything.
