  • Running tilted up

    Good Day
I have a 2014 DF300, I have read that flushing the engine using the hose ports on the front or rear does not send fresh water through the powerhead. The boat is at a dock all season and I would like to know if I place muffs over the water intake with engine tilted all the way up will it run, or am I going to hurt something. I read that there some corrosion issues, that I would like to avoid down the line.
    Thank You

John, i would definiitely not do that. Running the engine when tilted all the way up is going to get water into places where it definitely does not belong.

Flushing using the ports will send water all theough the water passages in the block and heads, thats what they are designed to do. The only place they might not send much water to is the water pump itself.

      Thanks for the reply Grant
Went to the back of the manual, it says "DO NOT RUN ENGINE IN THE FULL TILT UP POSITION" it does state to use the flushing port in the full tilt up position then lower the motor to a vertical position. Back in the water????? Am I a moron.
I now flush the engine in the full tilt up position, full 10 minutes, water spills out from the prop exhaust and I leave it tilted up. Right or Wrong
      Thanks again
      John
      Merry Christmas

I would assume that putting the motor back down after flushing is to allow the water to drain properly out of the head and block. But i do understand in your situation that will mean that the leg goes back into the water.

Would it be worth doing that - dropping the leg back down for a few minutes after flushing so it can drain out, then tilting it back up again so its clear of the water?

Grant, Sorry for the late reply
I am going to see if the dealer has any recommendations. He has it now for the overheat alarm issues. He wants to run it on the muffs and take out the thermostats, to see water flow on both banks are the same. one bank was running 5 degrees warmer than the other. The alarm was going off at 134.6 F 57c. I trust him. Find out more in spring, he has it for the winter
