  • New DF20AES2 Misfire Under Load

I have a brand new DF20AES2 and am on the tail end of the break in period (~8-9 hrs). I have noticed, what I think is, a misfire/sputter when accelerating under load. When alone with basic gear in the boat, the engine seems to operate as expected. When more than one person and additional gear are loaded, the engine will misfire or sputter at 1/2-3/4 throttle when trying to plane. Is this simply the engine ECM "learning" the rpm/fuel delivery mixture or is this an issue to be serviced?

My DF20A never did that, however I only have 100 hours on it. Heard of check valve in fuel cap problems. Might loosen the cap and take a trial run.

i assume that it's an tiller model and not a remote.

first of all i should wait until the 20 hour mark. thats where you get your first maintanace warning. than , the ECM will act as if the engine is broken in. the ECM of these engine's is zelf learning. one thing you could do now is check if the throttle wire's are ajusted correctly. i often find that the pulling wire ( when opening throttle) is adjusted to tight and even when the handel is at idle the throttle valve is not fully closed. that's where most problem's start. the ECM assumes that the partly opened throttle valve is in the closed position and start acting wrong resulting in strange behavior throughout the whole throttle range. in that case you have the dealer correct the issue. there is a way to re-learn the ecm but you need the laptop with SDS. but again , only when the throttle valve is not fully closed at adle.

I agree to wait until the break-in period is over then see if it still happens
