  • Suzuki df250hp over heat @ idle

    Greetings guys

anyone had an issue with a df250 overheating @ idle ?? Will run fine all day over 1200rpm. Drop it back to idle on the pontoon dock at with in 10 mins over heat buzzer goes off. Stb bank running @ 105 degrees and port running @ 60 degress. New waterpump kit, two new thermostats, new water poppet relief valve ???? Thanks

    yes
    what year is your engine?

    I have a 2006 DF 175
had the engine rebuilt but that had nothing to do the overheating
after break in period and then some had a long run to do tuna fishing
pulled back to idle and within a few minutes the overheat alarm goes off
increase rpm's and alarm goes away.. back to idle overheats
long story short mechanic had tested everything.. by-pass valve,, thermostat etc
finally talked to a mechanic that used to work for Suzuki and found that a number of engines built 2006 - 2008 (approx time period) that water/exhaust ports within the oil pan had corrosion problems..
this guy told my mechanic where to look and sure enough two big holes dumping cooling water back into the exhaust side.
At higher rpm's there was enough pressure to cool the head.. at low rpm just the opposite.
first place to look was behind the fitting on the port side you hook your hose to when flushing the engine.. big hole behind that cover plate.. second was internal between cooling water and exhaust inside the oil pan..
be careful removing the bolts.. they are known to twist heads off in the removal process..

I would check the bypass valve and thermosat to start with.. eliminate the easy to get to places first..

Hi Art don't mean to hijack the post but as an owner of a 2008/2009 DF175 I would be interested in some more information on your issue. Can you tell me what to look for and the procedure for fixing this issue? (should it arise)

Art, since you have never mentioned this issue with the DF150/175 on the forum before, how about letting all of us on the forum in on it. I thought the only such corrosion issue was with some of the earlier DF115/140 models. I've got an '07 Df150 and would be interested, too.
