  • DF115A: redline/rev limit ??

    Hi,
Am tyrying to find the redline/rev limit of the DF115A motor. Brochure says 5000-6000rpm, elsewhere I read 6100, and 6200
Does anyone here knows what the redline/rev limit is ?

    THANKS,
    V.

You are actually talking about 2 different things:

One is the recommended rev range - which is 5000-6000rpm. Suzuki is telling owners that this is the normal operating range that the motor should be propped to operate within.

The second matter - the red line - is where the engine’s ecu cuts spark, fuel and advance to prevent the engine from damaging itself from over-revving, for example, when the boat jumps off a wave and the prop loses grip on the water. This is about 6400rpm.

Now, dealers and our experience is that these engines need to be propped so that with a normal load on the boat, and at wide open throttle, (WOT) with the engine trimmed out to optimum position, they should reach about 6000rpm or very close to. No less than aout 5750rpm in my experience. This gets you the best combination of acceleration out of the hole, cruise and top speeds, and fuel economy.

I have my DF115 propped to reach just over 6100rpm with a light load in perfect conditions. Dealer set it up that way and confirmed it is ideal. With a full load and choppy conditions it will do just ovet 6000rpm.

    Hope this helps.
