    RedLowrey, I just came came back to this and read more closely the statement by lutherdog. He says "cuts out/off for millisecond" and that makes me wonder about it being electrical. Hey Lutherdog, can you tell us more about the condition of how it cuts out/off? Is it really a millisecond? How quick does it happen?

      It is as if someone is pressing and releasing the kill switch really, really fast. The boat never comes off plane when it happens.

        I am still trying to get this resolved. How many crankshaft position sensors are on this motor?

          There is only one and it is best checked with a scope meter viewing the waveform rather than using a digital multimeter. Check the sensor voltage at the ecu . If you had an ignition drop out it would be a very sharp jerk indicating all cyls are not switching for a very short time, rather than say if you had an individual coil drop out you would just feel a cylinder miss. With the engine missing in that rev range from 3000 as it goes to 4000rpm the ignition system would be under a lot of load.
