  • Suzuki DF30A Fast Idle Lever On Remote

Just bought a new 2015 DF30A motor for my rib, just finished install and so far every thing works great but when using the fast idle lever on the remote if I raise the lever all the way the motor shakes and misses, I don't have a tach as of yet but is my RPM,s going to high when I raise this lever all the way up, my previous Mercury did not have this lever so its my 1st time using one.

Have not tested motor in the river yet, hope to by this weekend to make sure everything else is good.

Oh yea this is my 1st post and hope my new Suzuki is going to be a great motor.

To add more info on my post above I have the motor in a tub of water and when shifted into gear and increasing throttle about half way the motor runs great but the fast idle lever I don't fully understand, should it only be raise about half way, never had a boat with this lever before, does raising this lever fully up does it make the motor shake and miss, half way up on fast idle lever it runs good..

If it's in neutral, and fast idle lever is going up to 3k it will limit the RPMs by interrupting firing to some cylinders, protecting itself from over revving.

Should finish installing gauge package, then you can tell what's happening. The rev limit light should be lighting up on your gauge.

The fast idle lever only works for neutral, and is usually not used. Most of the newer motors cold start, and idle are controlled by the computer. Basically you just pump the fuel bulb and start the motor.

Congrats on new motor, post back if other questions. Good luck.

I agree with Solarman. Your motor is hitting the rev limiter in neutral and the ECU is preventing it from revving any faster.

If you are into motor racing, it is like a race car in pit lane with the pit lane limiter on - the engine will be spluttering and missing like crazy.

These new 4 strokes are clever beasts, and you will rarely need to touch the neutral throttle lever. In fact it's best if you don't touch it at all when starting the motor.

The EFI system does everything required to start the engine in almost any conditions. I haven't even touched the primer bulb in the last year or two on my boat. When cold, the ECU will give it more fuel and you will notice the engine revving a bit more for a minute or two until it's warm, then the revs will drop down to the set idle speed around 650rpm.

Just jump in, trim the motor down and turn the key, let the beep stop, turn the key to the start position and they start pretty well instantly every time.

Enjoy the new motor. Be careful if this is your first Suzuki 4 stroke - they idle so quietly just about everyone has turned the key to start them when they are already running, or not realised they are running when they have put the boat on the trailer! Been there, done that myself!

Got a DF30ATS, don't use the idle lever.
Ours block starting when already running.

Thanks for the post above, I thought it was going beyond a certain RPM but not any where's near 6000 RPMs, I don't see why I need it unless I was warming the motor up at freezing temps, temps in Vegas this weekend says 80-82 degrees so I am heading towards Colorado river to test this new motor out, cant wait to see what she does, will keep you posted.

In neutral, the rev limiter kicks in at around 3000rpm.

Even in an icy winter, the ECU will adjust mixture and run the engine smoothly without using neutral throttle to help.

Good luck with the test run, look forward to hearing how it goes!

Well it was a success the motor worked fine down at the river this weekend, at 1st it started out a little slow and hard to plan boat had to move forward to plane out but after about a hour of use the motor loosened up and I did not need to move forward, seems to have got better by each hour of use.

                  Thanks for reporting back!

                  Sounds like things went well.

Just follow the break-in procedure as per the manual and it will go fine. Don't forget to do the initial 20hr service!

Mostly the motors free up quite noticeably as you get over 100 hrs on them.
