Have a 2010 DF-90, and cannot figure out how to adjust the lower tilt limit. Manual has precise instructions for canceling and resetting upper limit, and makes passing reference to a lower limit, but nothing on how to change it. Currently the motor will not tilt all the way down, and it hinders performance. If I open the screw valve, it will drop, but then returns to what I assume is a pre-set limit. Help!

adjusting lower tilt limit

Okay, now I understand your problem. But there still is no way that I know of to adjust the lower tilt limit. I don't have a DF90, but neither the owner's manual nor the service manual for the DF150/175 mentions anything about a lower tilt/trim limit adjustment. The tilt limit switch is only for the up limit. If your motor will not trim all the way down, there must be something physically blocking it. When the motor reaches its proper lowest trim position, the pump still runs if you hold the switch down. Holding the switch down once the motor is down as far as it will go is not advised, I'm just giving the example as an indication, that if if you hold the switch in the down position, and the pump motor still runs when the outboard stops, then something must be impeding the further lowering of your outboard motor. But if the pump motor stops at that less-than-full-down position while you are still holding the switch down, then I guess you might have some kind of adjustment for that. I'm just not aware of any such adjustment.Last edited by Harper; 10-10-2015, 06:10 PM.Mike

Mike,
The tilt/trim pump motor does NOT still run when the lower limit is reached. It reacts exactly the same as the upper limit -- it just stops, and the motor shuts down, There is no physical impediment. If I loosen the screw in the tilt cylinder, the motor immediately and smoothly drops all the way down. But, next timed I raise it, it goes back to the same limit. It appears to me that there is something electronic telling it to stop. I'm certain there is some kind of adjustment available.

adjusting trim down erratic
Hello guys, thanks for the post. I have just bought a DF60, and I have exactly the same issue. I have located the issue to a little plastic roller/cam, that when moved with one finger, allows the motor to trim down further. The tilt sensor roller movers on this bracket, and moving the cam towards the switch allows further tilt.
It appears that you cannot set a lower trim limit, the service manual does however indicate that it can be done. Setting the upper limit works well.
Has anyone found a solution to this issue.

Not knowing at all what I'm talking about as I do not own this motor, but I believe I read some where that the procedure is exactly the same as setting the "UP" position except you push the "DOWN" button when the "UP" button is referred to in the text. Not having read the procedure, I'm not sure if this is applicable, but it's some thing to look into.

The trim down procedure does not seam to work the same as the trim up. It is limit switch driven. I have used the motor now for almost a week, and every time it does not trip down as far as I need, which is parallel to the hull, it wiggle the cam ( mention it in previous post) I can get a few more degrees trim down and a nice flat plain. Do any of the Suzuki gurus know the solution to this problem.

Setting the lower limit is not done using the lug/rings on the motor.
Contact your dealer for the setup manual for your motor.
My understanding that there is a sequence of actions involving the throttle, engine kill switch and trim button that sets the lower trim limits. I also understand that if you set the limit to negative trim, the trim gauge will not work.
Edit: i found this installation manual online. It dscribes how to set the upper trim limit, and i undestand, but cannot guarantee, the setting the lower limit is the same, except you use the down button on the trim switch instead of the up button.

Many thanks.
It looks like the '09 DF70 trim/tilt procedure is exactly the same as the '15 DF60 procedure. I have tried this, but the motor seams to reach a limit before it reaches "flat" or "neutral" trim. My transom is 12 degrees, within general recommendation.
I think I have attached 2 images of the cam and limit switch for interest. If not, please let me know.
If the cam is rotated, the trim limits can be changed.
thanks again.
