I have a pair of 140's 2014, and am having a problem of my fuel gauges not reading anything. The fuel sensor was replaced well as one of my gauges. The engine sensor was also replaced, by the mechanic and he had a computer to make sure everything was dialed in correctly. It lasted one trip and then my low fuel warning horn was going off then both gauges stopped reading. I am now waiting for the mechanic to return with new fuel sensors. I have a catamaran with two separate tanks do I have two fuel sensors? Also think of getting rid of my old gauges and updating to the new style?

Are you referring to regular analog gauges, connected to float fuel level sensors, or to SMIS gauges, using the SMIS sensors connected via NMEA 2000 backbone? If regular analog, it should be easy to trace down. When I first bought my boat new, there was a bad connection at the Deutsch connector to the fuel level sender in the tank. If it's the SMIS setup, then it might be a problem with the sender, but it also might be calibration, gauge setup (gauge can be set to give fuel level by using either a sender in the tank, which has to be calibrated to your particular tank(s), or it can indicate fuel level by amount used, according to injector pulse width data provided by the ECU). For your information and that of everyone else on the forum, while most Suzuki dealers and independents have adequate knowledge of Suzuki mechanicals, very few are properly schooled in the Lowrance/Suzuki electronics.Mike

These are the round 4'' smis gauges. The fuel gauge worked for one year, at least I was getting a reading, but I never topped off my tanks. Until I took a long trip and just about ran out of gas on one side. With that said the gauges were never set up port on left, starboard on right, and neither was calibrated right. After I had a mechanic adjust the tanks to the proper side reading, and he also replaced one of my gauges that only read S, and nothing else. He also had to update the old gauge to the 2.6, from 2.4 software. That lasted for a week. Then my fuel reading did not showing anything. The next mechanic came out and replaced one fuel sensor and a engine sensor, and that worked for a week. Should the mechanic have replaced both fuel sensors? Or should I scrap the lorance gauges and go with the newer square ones?

You should be able to sort it out, but you'll need to be patient and be prepared to put some time into it. But it is well worth it to get this system up and working properly.
Firstly, and of most importance: At the top of this page, in the "sticky" section, I have posted a detailed paper on the Suzuki NMEA2000 system.
I'd suggest you have a good read of it and gain an understanding of how the system works with the SMIS displays. It will help you to get your head around this system, because it is TOTALLY different to the old analogue gauges. And it will help you avoid some of the mistakes that you've already made!
Now I gather that the last thing you mentioned is that the boat has had a new ECU (computer) installed, and I had heard that there was a recall on them, my mate has the same engines and his were replaced too.
That will have reset your engine hours to zero. No getting around that! It probably means that the engine interfaces should be reset. In fact, it wouldn't be a bad idea to start over again, and go into the gauge menu and do the "uninstall/reinstall" procedure so that you start with a fresh installation. My paper in the sticky section explains all of this to you so I'm not going to repeat it again here.
