I've recently purchased a new DF 2.5 outboard and have noticed that there does not appear to be any shear pins in this model. What gives? How does the motor react to striking an object? Thanks.

I'm not familiar with the little 2.5, but it is a long time since I've seen a shear pin in a propellor. The last one I recall was in my 1972 Johnson 25hp! But that's not to say they might not still be around!
Most Props these days use a rubber bush only, the theory being that the bush will let go before any major damage done to the gearbox.

I have the Honda 2.3, and it has a shear pin with a plastic propeller. I used an earlier version of this motor on a canoe trip with a friend years ago. We hit a sandbar in the river and the propeller fell off. I thought we were going to have to paddle the rest of the way home (horror!), but we went back and picked up the propeller and he popped another shear pin off a clip under the motor cowling, and we were on our way. It was a beautiful moment.
