  • 2015 Suzuki 300 HP digital Suzuki Modular Instrument Systems (SMIS) Gauges

    Hey there,

Suzuki gives no choice between analog and digital gauges because of the wireless system they use for the 300HP engines.

I have continuous issues with one or the other gauges blanking out completely. The gauges are operating, you just have NO display and can't see what is there.

The only way to restore the gauges is to shutoff the engine and restart OR to shutoff the battery switch and then, it comes back to the screen.

The factory has replaced the gauges 3 times now (I have a total of 89 hours on the engines).

It's obvious that it is not the gauges but something else.

Interesting note, I originally had 250's installed on this boat and didn't like the engines so they installed brand new in the box 300's including the computer, harness, etc. The 250's had the same exact issue with the gauges however, they were replaced twice since the new engines have been installed.

I went to the dealership that did my 3-6 code O2 sensor replacement and they had no fix other than turn the power off, turn it back on and live with it. In my opinion, a terrible thing to tell a customer that had $40,000 worth of engines installed.

    Any suggestions?

    Thanks guys

    Cheers

Which gauges have you got? The old round black and white ones, or the new color ones?

Either way, there would be 2 things I would be looking at:

    1. Network power supply. Make sure it's good clean power connection. I would bet that currently the network (and thus the SMIS displays) are getting power from a connection to the engine harness. I would try a separate power source for the network. Maybe connect direct to your positive bus bar. If that works, then subsequently put it onto a separate switched source of power.

    2. Software compatibility between gauges and engine interfaces. If your dealer is any good, they should be able to test different versions and find a set that works properly together.

Try a coldstart when it happend again (hold in "down" and swithe on ignition).
To make it not happend again use an separat wire directly between battery and SMIS only passing main switch.

I have a 2014 300 with the round gauge, I was having issues with the gauges until I put the white/black power connection from the ecm to a separate battery other than the starter battery. The system is very voltage sensitive, if I don't keep the battery charge up on the separate battery I'll get the issue but as long as the batts are charged within range no issues! Check for voltage drops, make sure the gauge of wire is correct and all terminals are tight and clean, and you might want to do a load test on batts as well!
