Went for a ride today and after I came to a stop, I went to put the boat in Neutral and it stayed in forward. Pulled the cowling while my buddy went through the different positions on the control box. The shift cable and arm where it enters the powerhead seem to be moving properly.
I suspect that the shift linkage either snapped or came loose.
When I rebuilt the lower unit, I recall their being a small shaft and cotter pin that hold the upper and lower linkages together. It makes sense that it would stay in reverse if the down position is Forward. If the link came loose than the linkage wouldn't be able to pull the lower shaft up into Neutral or Reverse.
Anybody ever have this happen? I'm hoping it's nothing more serious than the link coming loose.
