  • DF 90 Making Oil

I changed the engine oil and filter in January this year and used the boat 5 or 6 times since. Decided a couple weeks ago to check the oil level, it was over 2" high above the full mark but still very clean. I figured it had gas in it but didn't smell it for fuel and decided to change the oil and filter and was careful to add the correct amount of oil. I have since used the boat twice. After the first trip with about total 45 minutes of run time the oil level was 1/4" above the full mark. I then ran the boat this past weekend with about 1-1/4 hour total run time the oil level was 1" above the full mark but I don't smell gas in the oil. Since new I have only run Mobil 1 oil and oil filters. Engine starts and runs fine and very seldom below 5000 RPM.

    Any ideas or suggestions?

How old is motor? More than likely you prob had oil left over when changed. But yes they do have these issues that need monitoring! I changed my DF300 at 20 hours, then at 34 noticed oil level was high and of course never checked from original change, my tech who installed said on my motor not to run it prior to oil change due to up to a qt being spread out in the motor, the zuk school in ATL told them do it cold with motor tilted and turned to the port. Since I removed the overage I have no issue and at around 80+ hours!

Two things to check. Is your low pressure fuel pump working correctly. You can take the 2 bolts that hold the fuel pump off. Get someone to squeeze fuel primer bulb and see if fuel is exiting the back of the fuel pump. If so replace fuel pump. Next would be to pull the vapor hose that runs from vst tank to crankcase. Start motor and see if fuel comes out of the hose. If the needle is not seating correctly in vst it will cause fuel to overflow and be drawn up into crankcase. Those are the first 2 things I would check. Good luck..

I checked the LP fuel pump and it is leaking fuel around the plunger when I squeeze the bulb. I'll see about ordering a replacement on Tuesday.
