  • Johnson Evinrude guys

Just wondering if you 2 stroke guys could give a few ideas . My freind just got his 2006 Evinrude 135 ficht ram out after having it stored up for 8 or so years.
Tried to fire it up but it wouldn't start

Took the plugs out dropped a little oil in the pots , cranked the out ,changed fuel filters , checked for spark ok put some fresh fuel in a 4 liter tank , but it just won't start.

Kind of wants to but doesn't , I think it would be a stuck needle & seat , so im wondering if i've missed something . Any suggestions would be appreciated

I'd say, 8 years is a long time not being fired up. Protective films of oil dry up in less time?

I'd start with cleaning out the vst system, and check/clean the low pressure pump system (vro/pump?). After that, flush a little clean fuel (might add a little fuel/ injector system cleaning additive in that 4ltr tank.) through the fuel rail (check pressure if weak flow). Then try to fire it up. If firing ok, and injectors are ok, it should fire up.

Pay attention to any unusual sounds when you get motor running. It's possible for rusting and slight pitting to have started in such a long setup period.

    Good luck.
