  • De-salting

Manual for my little DF 2.5 says -"Remove the propeller, put the gears in Neutral and run it in a barrel with fresh water".

I'm doing all this, only don't remove the prop. Too much trouble to straighten and pull the cotter pin out, undo the nut, remove the prop, then put everything back and bend the pin again.

The only thing that doesn't get fully washed in this method, is the shaft, and it's generously lubricated. Wherever places on the shaft the salt can get with the prop on, the fresh water can get there too. So why removing the prop?

Removing the prop = the work of the "safety Nazi's".

I don't know anyone who removes the prop to flush their outboard, whether that is using earmuffs or in a drum of water. Flushing it like you are will do the job perfectly well.

However, due to liability issues if they didn't include this instruction in the manual, they include it. So make up your own mind!

      That's what I thought. Thanks.
