  • 2015, DF150 Intermittant Smoke seen on start-up

Hi there, i'm wondering if anyone else is or experiencing smoke on start up from the DF150, and possibly DF175 considering they are so similar.

My engine has low hours (60) is the current 2015 model and runs perfectly otherwise.

I say intermittently as some days it will do it more than others, some days not at all, however you may smell a very light burnt oil smell. There doesn't seem to be any real pattern to it. The last time i noticed it we had driven a very short distance, parked up for an hour then re-started it. On this start up a blue smoke cloud came from the exhaust, much like an old 2 stroke, then i ran out to sea for 1 hour 45min without stopping at around 4000rpm, drifted for 5 hours, started it up twice in that time to readjust a drift and no smoke could be seen?

From what i can tell there its not using enough oil for it to be noticed on the dip stick and has no effect on the way the engine runs or its performance.

I first started to notice this after its first oil change at 20 hours.

Thinking possible defective valve stem seal, or possibly oil getting into the engine breather some how.

Anyone else seen or heard of this issue. Its going back to the dealer for diagnosing hopefully this week, however thought id check through this forum in the off chance others have come across this?

    Thanks all.

Interesting.. I have brand new 300's (2015) and at about 75 hours, I noticed when I started the engines after fishing for awhile, my starboard engine had light smoke coming from it.

It didn't last long and I chalked it up to my adding Yamaha Ring Free Plus (as recommended by the Suzuki dealership who just replaced an O2 sensor).

Anyhow, I'm curious if you find a reason for it.

I haven't noticed it since but definitely noticed it that one time.

    Thanks

    Cheers
