  • Oil level increasing on suzuki 70-help!

I have a 2001 (Johnson 70) same as a Suzuki 70 that is on my pontoon boat. I have noticed the oil level raising on the dip stick. I didnt think too much of it until I found my engine hydrolocked at the beginning of the year and found oil flooding cylinder #4(bottom cylinder) I changed the oil and I noticed that it has came up maybe 3/4 of a quart in a matter of a couple hours of run time (pulling tubes) . I run conventional 10w-40 oil. THe engine runs smooth as glass. The oil on the stick or drained oil is clean, Not milky from water and does not light(when trying to light with a match) or smell like fuel. I have looked over the engine and have replaced the diaphrams gaskets in the fuel pump that could likely allow fuel into the engine, I also have eliminated the idea of fuel flooding the cylinders by replacing the 4 fuel injectors with four used ones. I have done a compression test and have found all cylinders to be within 5 psi and compression was good. I was told to try a dry and wet compression test and check results, I am appreciative to any input anyone may have. please email to me sticks5346@aol.com

Don't worry about a wet and dry compression test, check the vst and you will find that's where the the problem is.

Thats exactly what mine was. VST line flooding back into crankcase. Stuck needle and seat. Fun work getting to it but the problem is now gone.

Yep replace the needle and seat when youve got the VST off and apart. I tried just cleaning it before i paid the 50 bucks for a new one....wish i just bought the new one from the start haha. Fixed the oil making problem though.

By memory i think the VST chamber was filling up then getting sucked into the engine via a vacuum hose that goes into tappet cover at the top?

2001 Suzuki 70 oil level raising AGAIN

            Hello ALL,

After removing the VST pump and replacing the needle and seat I reassembled it, changed the oil and after two weeks of use the oil level is an inch over the full marker. Very frustrated...any other ideas??

            Thank you

I would verify that the fix worked by extending the line from the VST into a container and see if gas is still getting into that line. Do you have a system that could be over-pressuring the needle and seat, like an electric fuel pump?

There is only wo places fuel can get into your crankcase the vst and your low pressure fuel pump which is bolted to your cam cover.

oil in the fuel Suzuki 70

                    Hello,
Thank you for replying....i understand the low pressure fuel pump...if the diaphram leaks it will put fuel right into the head.....now on the vst how is that system putting fuel into oil. i did replace the needlea and seat in case reservoir is over filling and running into engine somehow

Please reply I appreciate your wisdom

                    Thanks

The only way fuel could get into your crankcase,is either through a ruptured diaphragm on the low pressure fuel pump, or the needle and seat is not holding its level filling up the vst, and traveling up up the vapour line. If you pull the vapour line off the top of the vst while running and fuel comes out that is where your problem is, If it is not coming out there remove the fuel pump and reconnect it up and pressurise it and see if any fuel leaks from the diaphragm. Is your fuel tank higher than your motor.

if the float for the needle valve is not correctly positioned the excess fuel goes through the overflow hose directly to the engine
