  • Suzuki DT 4 rev problem.

I bought this DT 4 recently wouldn't idle so I cleaned carb it was full of junk in the bowl. I didn't remove float or needle during cleaning because float pin was stuck and I didn't try real hard - Afterwards In neutral it runs great and will rev up and sounds great but when I put it in gear it will not rev up to higher rpm's seems to sputter like it's flooding any ideas on how to correct this. I'm using built in fuel tank.

It would have been better to give the carb a good soaking, then blow all passages out with an air compressor, including the high and low speed jets. It shouldn't matter if using inboard tank, as long as it is not full of trash and filters are clean. Plus, all fuel lines need to be good.
Don't rev motor in neutral, it is not made for that.

The needle valve and seat should be cleaned, it is what keeps the level of fuel ready for motor to use.

Before removing air mix screw, record the exact number of turns it takes to it lightly. This is the setting you have to put it back at.

    Good luck.

Thanks for the help I stopped and bought carb cleaner last night and was planning to soak tonight. Is the air screw located on the side of bowl. I have tried adjusting both air and fuel to get it going do u happen to know the starting settings for the air I have moved it ?

I can't view the carb parts diagram on my phone, so can't tell you where its located.
I cannot tell you what the manual specs are for adjustment. But, if no manual, then lightly seat the idle mixture screw closed, and back out one, to one and a half turns. After motor has idled for a couple hours, pull plug(s) and visually inspect. If color of plug is too light (too lean), turn clockwise (closed) 1/4 turn. If color of plug too black (too rich), turn counter clockwise (open) 1/4 turn. Your plug should be a medium dark chocolate color.
You can readjust again, if needed, but do not run motor too lean, it does need oil.

Do not bend float adjustment, unless you are sure it is not the proper fuel level in bowl, and you know how to adjust it, and what the settings are.

        Good luck.
