  • Swap DF115 Powerhead With DF140

I have a 2001 DF115 20" shaft with milky oil. My guess is there is a crack somewhere in the block from what I have read online.

    I also have a 2003 DF140 25" shaft that is just a spare engine.

I am looking for the path of least resistance. It is easier to swap the 140 powerhead to the 115 or is it easier to convert the 140 to 20"?

    Or just start over?

I will add to the post that I have had the same corrosion problems as others in the exhaust manifold. I had mine welded shut about 2 months ago.

Perhaps the welding heated a surface up, but there are so many possibilities, I do not know which way to start.

easier to change the leg than fix the motor, of course, that said, we/you have no idea what's wrong with the motor yet either.

Without tearing the engine down, how do you go about diagnosing the water intrusion? Just seems like you could spend a lot of time trying to find it.

Thanks for all of your support and comments!

For the next guy, I was able to swap powerheads and engine holders. Do not know where the water came from exactly, and really does not matter.

Pulled 115 powerhead and engine holder, pulled 140 powerheaed and engine holder and did a complete swap.

Had a Suzuki mechanic and myself working from my garage with a comealong and did the complete job in 7 hours.

Turned the key, fired right up, splashed the boat.

I don't know if I would try it alone without doing it before, but really not that hard either.

Most any DIY could do it!
