So for years the debate rages on regarding 4 strokes hole shot, weight, price, oil change cost etc, forget all the debating throw it out the window cause it's horse crap!!!! Lol
I had the same questions and concerns. Thought the only way I could have a 4 stroke was to add a bracket. Well I just proved it wrong. I increased 119# and there is virtually no change in water line vs scuppers. (Either way it's still not ideal) hole shot? Suzuki gets it and no problems, top end....this 250 loves it over 4000rpms, I alays say .8-1.1 with my old dt200 suk. .6 when I was water sporting. Today I had 9 passengers(aprox 800#), 40# ice with food n drinks, knee board, tube etc. with pulling tube at 3800rpms I was hitting 2.62mpg . I'll get better numbers when I have a more realistic crew n load. Put 6 hours on the motor and had a real nice break in.
Bonus: wife loves the motor and subsequently th boat, first time she has ever referred to it as her boat, out boat. She actually drove it the first two hours. Hydraulic steering, quiet and no smoke was HUGE pluses. For once I got to chill out and even knee board. Around 3500 rpms motor sounds real throatey. Just a good rich/deep noise. Couldn't be more happier to have reliable power with all the advantages. It made my love for boating that much more. This old mako feels like a brand new ride.
Pulling around tubers is not a way to impress fuel savings enthusiast but it's better than the old two stroke
Excellent! Welcome to the 4 stroke world. It's nice, hey!
What will she rev out to at WOT?
Are you getting used to the DTS? Thrown any passengers out the transom yet?
And the other good news is that when they get over 100 hours they loosen up and fuel economy improves a bit more again. And they get smoother, if that is possible.
Fuel saving is three times bette than old two stroke, I get on plane much faster and have about a 10mph faster gain at the same RPM's
Numbers are based off light crew and gear with half full tank (60gallons)
Great to hear you're happy with performance, but I think you can get quite a bit more out of her with the right prop.
I think you need to seriously consider the prop you are running. Getting 5400rpm at WOT, trimmed out, in light-ship mode, is not where you want to be. Overpropped.
The difference with these Suzuki 4 strokes is that they need to rev. NEED to rev!!
You want to prop her to hit 6000rpm at WOT. I would go so far as to say that propped to hit only 5400 with a light load is going to be lugging the engine and we all know how bad that is, long-term, for engine life.
There are at least 15 guys in my fishing Club that run Suzuki 4 strokes, between 90hp and 300. Probably half of them run 200-300hp. Every one of us run props that get us close to, or over, 6000rpm. We've tested many of those boats with various props 3 blade, 4 blade etc and run them through a regime to check speed and fuel economy at 500rpm intervals from idle to WOT. They all perform better and get better fuel economy when they are propped to hit 6000rpm. My local Zuke mechanic won't let his customers prop them under 5800rpm.
Several of them have done what you've done, gone form 2 strokes to 4. The hardest thing for many has been to get their heads around the fact that where the old 2 strokes cruise speed of, say 24 knots, was achieved at say 4500rpm, whereas the Suzuki cruise speed required 400-500 more rpm. That is just how it is. I have a mate with a very similar boat to mine, same HP engine, he runs an etec (brrrrrrrr!) and we can cruise side by side and he will be 500 rpm below me. But his etec maxes out at 5500, my Zuke will rev to 6200rpm.

Nice numbers, Grant is spot on, they smooth out over time, however your personnel cruise speeds tend to go higher and higher.
I would like to know if you like the cover and where you obtained it.
I dropped down to a 16x16 prop and now she is propped right. Hits max RPM's easily. I'll have to make some runs to get some new numbers. I still need decided if the motor needs to come up
