Ok I need help. I have an 85 Dt65 that runs great on the hose and idle in the water. Put it in gear and in misses a bit. Give it throttle and it starts to hesitate. I can mess with the trim back and forth and suddenly it gets power and takes off. Runs great until I back off the throttle and then it starts doing the same thing. I've pulled the carbs and had them cleaned, put new plugs in and checked the compression. Any ideas?

Sounds like you may have an electrical connection problem. If Playing with trim actually affects the running of motor, then I would start disconnecting all grounds and clean them up, after those are done, then start unplugging all the connections one at a time and make sure they are clean before reconnecting. Including all connections at solenoids (starter & trim, but battery should be disconnected for all the wire connection cleaning). Make sure you do one terminal at a time, so no wires can get mixed up. If you need to, take a couple pics to help with where everything goes.
Good luck, post back when able, if you find out anything.
