  • 2012 50hp Won't start

So it has been about a year and half sine my brother dropped off his Boston Whaler with a 50hp Suzuki on it. 2012 I think, it has about 40 hrs on it. I pulled it out of storage last night and drained all the gas (it was treated with Stabil before we parked it) but I wanted it drained anyway. So we drained it and the filters and put new gas in all, installed a new battery and hit the key and it just turns over but no kick at all. I checked and seem to have fuel to the filters. So in last ditch effort last night we hooked a small propane bottle up to the air intake and turned the the key and it fired right up! For just a few seconds and thats it. I can fire it off the propane but it is not getting fuel. Any thought? fuses to check? Would it fire like this if the kill switch is bad? The shop can't look at it for 3-4 weeks so I would like to do whatever I can.
I do not remember hearing the fuel pump kick on at all?
    Any help is appreciated!! Thanks

Hopefully this is a 4 stroke. and yes, you need to hear feel pump kick in if this had fuel injection system? If so, there might be a relay that's stuck, or not working?

Good luck. Someone else that knows 4 strokes better may come in and help you?

As Moonlighter mentioned can we assumeeing a 2012 it is a 4 stroke
Model number should be located on prop shaft below the engine head
When you turn the key you should hear the high pressure pump kick in for a few seconds
When you pump the primer bulb does it get hard? You need it to get to point you cannot pump more into system
Did you clean the high pressure fuel filter? Gas setting in there for over a year will be bad

Yes 4 stroke EFI, I do not hear the fuel pump come on. I looked for fuses and I cannot find any. I took the injectors off and had them tested and cleaned but they were fine. Cleaned them any way. Frustrated! This thing is basically new! Yes drained all fuels d filled with new. I suspect sensor or fuse maybe pump?

Since it wont fire I would check spark plugs. Bad plugs can cause all kinds of problems. After that I would go to fuel pump.
