  • cracked suzuki cowling

I have a cowling on a 1982 Suzuki 9.9dt that has a 3 inch crack in the top of it that was in it when I got it over a year ago and it does not appear to be spreading. It is an old motor and I do not want to put a lot of money into it. It does not have to look pretty as it is on an old 12ft tinner. What is the best way to repair it? I was thinking either jb weld or a fiberglass repair kit. Any suggestions? Thanks.

If its fiberglass Cowling, I'd go with the same fg repair kit.

    Good luck.

New ones are FG. Yours - don't know, but it doesn't matter too much. Epoxy resin adheres to vinyl and aluminum same well.

Marine epoxy and FG fabric is the best. "Fiberglass resin" (cheaper and less durable polyester resin) that comes in FG repair kits in auto stores, would work too. They often put a FG mat in those kits, it's a shredded short fibers, not a weave, FG fabric is better than mat. Put a backing of Scotch tape underneath, to stop the resin from leaking through. Then do the other side. Sand, re-coat and sand again if you are perfectionist.
