I just purchased a new DF6. I added engine, but I do know if I need to add gear oil. I called my dealer and Suzuki and neither of them know. Please help.
Little brother of yours, my DF2.5 caused me the same head-scratching pain. Nowhere in documents it says to add gear oil.
A friend, long-time auto mechanic, has a talent for understanding any possible engine, - told me not to touch it. A video from another dealer describes all the pre-op procedures and warns to add engine oil since manufacturer supplies it almost dry (and it was), but says nothing about gear oil.
So I went ahead, put it in the barrel and run as prescribed - idle with gear ON. All is good.
Supplying a motor with no gear oil would mean replacing 2 gaskets on plugs before you even start the motor, and they don't supply spare gaskets. In other words, this would mean - they would've supplied a motor with insufficient parts to start operating it. Doesn't make sense.
Well, I thought about checking the level - but this would mean a trip to far-away dealer for level gasket(s) or mail-order RIGHT NOW. So I'm glad it's over now (see previous post), and spare gaskets can wait until the end of season.
