    I gave a set of df150 which are connected to a set of smis 4 inch gauges through nmea 2000. Each engine has its own interface but does each power node need to be hooked up to the nmea 2000. Thanks Chris

    Hi Chris

    No, the network must only have one power source.

    What you will have is one NMEA2000 network that has two Suzuki interfaces attached to it.

    When you have the physical installation done, and turn it on for the first time, you can then go into the network menu on one of the SMIS gauges and name each interface - typically, name the starboard engine "starboard" and the port engine, well, you get the drift.

    The SMIS gauges are powered by the network, so one common approach is to connect the network power node to a spare + connector in the engine harness behind the dash. This way, the gauges will come to life at the same time as the engine key is turned on for whichever engine's harness you connect it to.

    The alternative is to wire it to a separate switch that you can turn on or off. That is a good idea if you want to be able to view any data from the network when the engines are off.

    You have to have each engine turned on (key to on position, engine doesn't need to be running) in order for the network to detect it and to enable you to find it in the network menu and go into the config screen and give it a name. So the trick is to turn the Port engine key on only, go into the gauge menu and you will see one Suzuki listed in the device list, open it and name it. Then turn that engine key off and turn the Star one on and do the same thing. Now, the network and users can easily differentiate between the 2 engines.

    Once that is done, you can set up each gauge so that it displays data from the chosen engine. So the gauge on the left can have its data sources set to the "port" engine, and the RHS gauge can be set to read data from the starboard engine. It's not too hard, just find the data source menu in the gauge you are setting up.
