DF300AP prop spacer washer

I am installing Zuke 4 blade props replacing Merc's. On both motors with the props installed the shaft splines do not stick out so they would engage the spacer washer plines. The props are fully seated into the reverse thrust washer. Do I just center the spacer or is something going on? The plain washer without the spacer hits the taper at the end of the splines and will not tighten against the prop.
