Installing Voltage Gauge Question

Upgrading the instruments (Tach, GPS speedo, Trim, Fuel, Voltage) on my boat and need to connect the volt gauge to a 2005 DF140. Looking at the schematic in the service manual I am not sure where to connect the “sensor” part of the gauge. Any 12 volt source that is controlled by the ignition power work? If so, I believe I should connect it to the “Battery” White wire on the ignition? Is that correct?

I believe the battery should be about 12.5V when the engine is not running and about 14.2V when the alternator is charging the battery? That is what I want to measure on the voltage gauge.

I just added a volt gauge to my DF140 and had the same question. I ended up connecting it to the (+) wire on the tach and it works fine. Just as you said, it reads about 12.9 with the engine off and 14.5 with the engine on.

Thanks Steve, I will be working on the boat Friday. In addition, I will be connecting a GPS speedometer, installed a second battery in the boat (using a Blue Seas Add-a-Battery), and rewiring the bilge pump/float switch.

Working on a boat outside in Houston TX, in July, isn't my idea of fun!
