I have an 85 horse that falls on its face when you put it in gear and start to throttle up it will run like the wind when not in gear is it a fuel problem like the filter or could it be a carb issue I just bought the boat and took it out this weekend it's an 83 yr model oil inject 2 stroke any help diagnosing would be appreciated

It could be a number of things. Revving in neutral does no good.
It could be old gas blocking fuel passages, and jets. I think your model had a primer system, that could be not working. It could be fuel pump(s) not working properly. Possibly tps breaking down (not advancing timing when throttle is pushed open)? has compression been checked? are all cylinders firing properly? What do plugs look like?
Do you have a service manual for your motor? You're going to need a good one.
