  • 2001 DF50 shift linkage

    Hello All,
This is my first post, so hopefully this topic has not been overdone. I have a Carolina Skiff with a 2001 DF50 on it. Recently, the shift linkage started (I think) going out of adjustment. To be more specific, when the remote shift lever at the wheel is in neutral, the prop is engaged in reverse. When I drop the remote shifter in reverse, the prop goes into neutral , with no prop spin. The linkage at the lower unit is intact, and where it has been in the past, so I think the problem might be at the cable/linkage. Can someone tell me what the best way to fix this is? thanks

I would agree with your thought the cable linkage is out
the adjustment is probably at the connector at the engine
need to remove the attachment point at the engine
I have a df175 and would believe yours should be similar
look for a nylon connector on a ball joint..
put the shift lever in neutral and the shift connector at engine in netural and then make your adjustment by loosening the nut on the nylon connector and shorten or lengthen slightly until it lines up

I dont have my manual in front of me but that should be pretty close to what needs to be done..
