  • DF140 ECU problem??

One of my 2003 DF140s with 1600 hours developed a recent problem starting. It would start and stall immediately. Air valve was getting voltage but my mechanic found that ECU was not operating the air valve. Swapped ECU with my other engine ECU and the problem moved to other engine. Put in a new ECU($$$) and things were fine for 15-20 hrs running (over 2 months) Today the problem with engine is back. Mechanic & Suzuki "think " it may be a voltage or short issue-any advise would be welcome

9-25-10 Thanks for the following suggestions. Mechanic and I checked voltage drops to eng/computer during start-voltage dropped to 9.2 and computer kicked out (eng started but instantly died), Replaced all battery to eng cables with tinned cables and voltage drop and computer problem went away. Fortunately I did not burn out another computer . Lesson learned about sensitivity of ECUs failure due to low voltage

Sounds like bad ground or the voltage regulator

If you disconnect the white wire that connects that motor to the starting battery, whcih supplies 12Volts to the ECU, for about twenty minutes does it sort of reset everything? I have been having some issues that correct themselves when I disconnect that wire for about 20 minutes or so. I'm waiting till after fishing season to deal with it. I only Bay fish so I pull the fuse in between fishing stops. I haven't been stranded yet, but if I leave it hooked up the whole trip it sort of times out after 4 or 5 hours (starts and stops staying hooked up). Then I'm stuck until I pull the wire.... 20 minutes

I would be interested to hear your response. good luck
      Oh yea, I have an 07 DF140

          Problem Starting

I would take another wire harness and hook it up to engine & run it over transom to ignition switch. Then see if this fixes problem.

              ECU Problem

Suzuki says to install stainless steel nylon lock nuts and washers no wing nuts should be used.
