Help, '97 DT 225, won't go over 2k RPM

Hello, my 1997 225 two stroke is having an issue. Ran great a few months ago. Put it on the rack fired right up no problem. Runs great, in neutral, revs up fine. Put in the water, still runs great. That is until you give it power to go. Full Throttle will only do 2000 RPM, doesn't sound like its bogging down. Appears butterfly is opening up just fine. NOT a lower unit issue.
Last season I had new fuel pumps put in, a tune up, with all new plugs.
Also engine seems to run smoother than ever,,weird.

ANY ideas or help would be great!

Do you have any codes flashing? It sounds like it is in limp mode?

Is your motor efi, or does it have carbs? Ill try to look up in parts page.

Thanks for the reply...It is EFI,,I dont think any codes where flashing. How do you tell if it is throwing codes?

Turn key to first position (not running). Look at monitor gauge, after initial beep, are any lights flashing, if yes, is it a number of flashes for first code, then short pause, and second number of flashes for the second code. Then it should repeat the codes again. Look at tach also, they had some item codes in the earlier years on the tach.

Thanks for the reply,,,I'll do that when I get time. I have a battery switch and turn the batteries off when not using. Would this clear the codes? Sometimes, when Idling, the motor will run smooth r ever, but will fall off for a second and I get the long beep, but always ran fine. Don't know if that is related? Thanks for your help! Any links for the codes to figure out what the flashes mean?

What flashes do you have? No, I don't think a battery switch erases code. If something is wrong, the ecm reads it each time key is turned to on position. Until corrected, it will read the problem.

Yes, a service manual for your motor will tell you what the codes mean. And you might be able to google Suzuki marine codes, as well?

No codes will goto full power in the water in reverse... Local mechanic thought that maybe the bearing in the lower unit might be locking up.. I checked the lower unit oil, looks brand new! So that is not it....Will take the the mechanic on a ride next week to try to figure it out..... any ideas?

Full power in reverse is not good. If not doing well in forward, why try reverse? Do you plan to run around the river in reverse?

Find out what's wrong and fix it.

Usually sensors, bad plugs, bad gas, and overheating cause these kind of problems. If your mechanic is saying lower unit gears might do this, it's time to find a new mechanic.
if this mechanic did the tune up, that might be the reason too?
