  • 1981 suzuki dt25 ignition system

    Hi I'm a Newby to the site. I have a 1981 dt25 that is not firing and according to the service manual all of my ignition components are testing bad with a multimeter [don't ask me] lol. Is there anyway to anyway to rid the cdi ignition system for a basic transistor type electronic ignition module? I'd have a fortune wrapped up in OE parts otherwise. Thanks in advance

    Sounds like a bad kill switch? Not all all components go bad at one time. That's extreme. Either what model do you have?

      I have the 2 cylinder model. Sorry. Also it has key ignition switch only. It doesn't have a kill switch with lanyard

        I can't pull up your parts pic to see exactly what you have. Boats.net has changed their Web page. I understand you don't have a kill switch, or stop switch, but generally not all components go bad at the same time. So, I think your problem is related to a wire touching ground somewhere? The kill switch operates by grounding a wire that prevents the cdi from getting & sending voltage to the coils. Therefore, my thought is a wire is touching ground, doing the same thing as the kill switch would, if you had one. Maybe the key switch is not turning the system on (that means the first position on the switch may be bad?)?

          Thanks for the response. We are on the same page with this matter. I agree strongly that it unlikely for all components to go bad at the same time. But I have taken the components off the engine and tested with same results. I'm basically wondering if there is any source of primary power to cdi module. Perhaps maybe previous owner accidentally supplied 24 volts to engine electrical system and let the smoke roll. Although there is no evident sign of burnt wiring or components.
