Just came across the forum. Lots of good info. Here is my problem....4" smis gauge started blinking dashes instead of reading numbers for fuel burn, fuel remaining, etc. Changed a bad battery with no improvement. gauge has since quit working. Any ideas?

Rebooting the gauge might work.
Try the procedure for rebooting the gauge as outlined by moonlighter in post #2 here http://www.suzukioutboardforum.com/s...e-problem.html
If you need to search the forums for additional input, make sure you go directly to "advanced search" since you'll get no results from a regular search.Last edited by Harper; 02-25-2015, 10:32 AM.Mike

It could be a number of things. Gauge broken, network cable or T piece connection corroded, interface cable failed are the 3 things to check to try to diagnose what has actually happened.
Firstly, when you say it has quit working, do you mean that when the engine key is turned to on, that the gauge doesn't start up, that it is completely dead? No response at all? Please give specific details of what happens when the engine key is turned on. Note; the gauge gets its power from the network connection, so if the T piece it is plugged into has gone bad or got corroded in the connections, then the gauge will not get power so it won't work. Also, if the network power node has broken, wires or connections or fuse is corroded, network won't work, so neither will the SMIS display.
So check all the connections - check the T piece that the gauge is connected to. Check the inline fuse that is on the power line for the network power supply. Try swapping the gauge to another T piece and see what happens. E.g. Swap the gauge and say the power connections T pieces. Make sure that 12V power is actually getting to the network.
Do you have any other display (eg a sounder or GPS chartplotter) attached to your NMEA2000 network that can display engine data? If so, do you get any engine data coming up on that display? That will tell us if the network is working and if the interface cable to the engine is working.
If you can get hold of another SMIS display, you could simply unplug the existing one and temporarily connect the replacement to the network in its place and see if it works. This is the simplest and quickest check, but depends on if you have a friendly local Suzuki dealer or someone who will allow you to borrow one! (A Lowrance LMF 400 is the same so it would be a suitable substitute for this test as well).
It is basically a process of elimination.
