    Hey all,

    Took delivery of my 2012 df200 recently and I had a problem today on muffs, engine was running for about 15 mins at idle while I was setting up nmea, alarm beep and saw temp light on. Within 5-10 seconds of the light the motor just shutdown itself.

    Upon inspection the muffs seemed okay but I put them off/on anyway, fired the motor up and away it went again.

    I assume as the engine was out of gear the motor just shutdown to prevent damage?

    Is damage likely? I hope not!!

    possible stuck thermostat maybe. im sure the other guys will be on the help as well. and I would not think damage would occur since it shut itself down.

      There have been a few posts like yours
      Some times it is not enough water from a hose
      With the motor running excess water from the muffs should be blowing out the sides of the muff. If not you need to supply more water pressure
      A 2 year old water pump should still work unless you have a lot of hours but would certainly have it inspected. And if you need to go that far just replace the impeller. Manual indicates every 2 years is recommended

      Is the motor still under warranty at this point?

        hi folks,

        thanks for the replies.

        i'll buy a different set of muffs to better suit this engine. i've only owned the darn thing 48 hours and already a problem

        as long as nothing is damaged (i assume not hence the auto shutdown, cool feature) i'll be quite happy.

        i don't know if the impeller has been replaced, will have it replaced though as a matter of course.

        BTW the motor has 68 hours on it.

          68 hours is very low
          With regards to the impeller it is more the fact that the blades have been compressed for an extended period of time
          Do you know where the motor was used fresh water or salt?
          As mentioned check the thermostat. In doing so you will also be able to visually check inside the port for debris or some type of corrosion Be sure you get a new gasket The old one will probably tear

            hi again,

            the engine was used in salt but flushed after every use. it didn't stay in the water more than a day and then back out.

            the boat lived on a drystack in london.

              The other thing to note is that when you are setting up or otherwise configuring the NMEA 2000 network, it is not necessary to actually have the engine running.

              Just have the key turned to the "On" position is sufficient.

              I would change the impeller too. Having them sit for extended periods without being used frequently results in them going hard, or the vanes getting a "set" which means they don't do their job properly. Starting the motor monthly and running on the muffs for 15 minutes when the boat isn't being used is a good idea to help prevent this.

              If you can, get the dual feed muffs, the ones where the hose attaches to a Y joint which then feeds both sides of the muffs. The ones that connect to just one side of the muffs don't work as well.
