Got motor back from dealer after he replaced impeller and thermostat. Took it out on water. After 5-10 minutes of running, brought it back to ramp. After turned off motor, tried to use power lift. It would not respond. Then tried to start motor, and nothing happened. Back at house, noted that accessories (lights, depth finder, etc.) all work; so battery is good. Then tried the tilt again and it worked; then tried it again, and it did not work! Also, when turn key to "on", the gauge (i.e., oil level) works. Got out the manual, did some reading, and then took out the neutral safety switch and used an old car engine tune-up meter to show a very small flicker of electricity could go throught it, and then "worked" the little "spring-button" on the switch to make sure it functioned. Put the switch back in. Tried the tilt again, and it worked. Then tried the to start the engine and this time heard a "click", but that's all. Then tried the tilt again, and it would not work again. Not a rich man; would like to buy a part I could put in versus taking it back to dealer for the "big bucks" repair job. Any and all assistance appreciated.

Check battery cable connections.
It could still be the battery failing. Other items that work dont pull anywhere near the power that a starter motor does. If all the connections are fine and all tight, then try another known good battery, even a temporary connection will tell you if that is the issue or not. Or put battery on a tester.

dt40, '95, starting & tilt issues
If the new battery, does the same thing, tell us.
Make sure all connections at battery are good, then check battery connections on the motor, likewise inspect main wire harness coming into motor for any corrosion/ loose connections. Also, when you say ”no tilt”, at the controls, or at control and motor?
Get back with us, and tell us what you find.Last edited by Solarman; 09-25-2014, 09:45 AM.
