  • DF140 intermittent starting issue

I have a '05 DF140 , it starts very easy almost all the time, the problem I am having is that when it has been running for a while and gets warm , if I shut it down , sometimes it acts like I have no power to the ignition switch when I try to restart it . All I have to do is lift the cowling off the motor a little bit and push on the outside of the ECM module and turn the key and it starts. Does this sound like a bad connection or something worse. Thanks for any info.

    df140, starting issues

Sounds like there could be an issue with the wires/ connections at the start relay, or possibly the main battery ground wire. Check if any of those wires are loose.
Good luck, and let us know.

sounds like the power relay plug has come loose, get a small screw driver and lift the lugs on the ecm cover remove it and check the relay connecters.

TranCat64 - This sounds like the issue I'm having. Were you able to resolve?

You would also want to check the notorious engine holder corrosion issue. Port side, under the water flushing attachment is roughly where to look.

Sorry to restart an old thread, I have a similar issue. Does your engine crank over and not start or does it not crank at all? Did you ever find a remedy for this?

My 2002 DF140 will run well for hours, if I turn it off it has a 50/50 chance of starting on the first try. If mine does not start it will always crank but might not start until the 2nd or 3rd try.

When it does not start on the first or second try, is it trying to fire at all? Or does it just crank and crank with no hint of firing, requiring you to abort the start?
