  • DF60 Emergency stop - Not

    I have just purchased a 2008 DF60 with about 700hrs, very sweet. However, i have just noticed that the emergency stop switch on the remote does not stop the engine either by pushing or disconnecting the plastic tag. Worse yet, upon testing a new harness plugged directly into the engine it doesnt work either, ie you can start and stop the engine with the key but not the emergency stop button. So there must be an issue on the engine side of the wiring. Has anyone any idea where i should look for the problem? Thanks

    If I read you right - that the problem is that the kill switch does not work - I can tell you I recently had the same issue on my 2007 DF50 remote. No major hassle - apparently it is quite common. Just needed to replace the switch itself - quick and cheap for a Suzuki mech. (it may be a DIY job, but it was done during the last service, so I didn't investigate this option. I never use the kill switch myself - I only noticed it when I couldn't turn off the service alarm.

      Thanks Manimanaus. Unfortunately I replaced the switch on the remote control unit and the entire harness from the remote control right to where the harness plugs into the engine but the problem persists. This makes me pretty certain that the problem is in the wiring in the engine, as if the kill circuit has shaken loose - but i cant see any clear circuit diagram for that or where i would need to look. Cheers

        While I am not familiar with your exact model, the safety cut out is a pretty simple thing, it just grounds the ignition circuit to prevent spark, you will have to follow the wiring from where it enters the motor and where it grounds, it will be a dirty/loose/broken ground connection, almost certainly.

          Sorry - didn't realise. It's beyond my ken then, I'm afraid, although looking at the wiring diagram for mine, there isn't that much to the kill switch wiring (one to GND and one connected between the ignition switch and the ECM - presumably the kill switch just earths the circuit). My instinct would still be that it is something at the remote end, not at the engine.

          Have you done the continuity tests suggested in the manual? Also - just to be sure to be sure - you say you replaced the switch and the wiring harness - did you replace the ignition switch and the kill switch, or just the latter?

          Ah - just seen noelm007's post. Makes sense to me.
