I have a 1994 9.9 high thrust kicker that has lost compression. I bought this motor new and it has served me very well over the years. On the third day of our recent trip the motor suddenly quit and a compression check shows only 50 psi on each piston. the oil tank was full on starting and a small amount of oil was used in the hour it was runing. I have also run a compression check with oil in each piston and the compression level did not change. The model number shown on the motor is DT9.9C and the ID number is 00994-581404. Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated.

I know this is an old thread but it worth a try. I have a 1994 DT9.9 that needs a few parts. It had no spark when I got it, built a CDI unit to get the motor to run to sheck out the gears and such. It works fine. Any chance you want to sell the CDI unit? -
Jerry, your best chance to find a good cdi unit, is to google the part # with item name. When you do this, your chances of finding used, and new parts will increase. if used, make sure they post a pic, for comparing, and make sure it came off a working motor.

Solarman, I've found a few CDIs new and used that are exact replacements. I'm just hesitant to spend anywhere from $150.00 used to $300.00 or more for new. There are Suzuki CDIs on Ebay for DT 9.9 that are much less but aren't the same part number. Maybe a new thread is in order to explain the differences between the CDIs for small engines. I know some CDIs measure the RPM then advance the spark based on that measurement. Pretty sure my engine does a mechanical spark advance by rotating a plate under the flywheel.Comment

Be careful of parts from e bay, have seen some knock-off parts from there, look identical on outside, but cheaper internal parts, that don't hold up more than a dozen hours, then fail.
