DF 140A Flushing

I have a DF140A and every time I try and flush with the ear muffs it takes nearly 15-20 secs before the water comes out of the tail pipe and the initial water is hot for 5 sec then cools rapidly. Is this the norm or should I be using the engine flushing port instead?

The preferred flushing method is using the muffs. If you use the flush port you MUST do with the engine OFF. Please explain the procedure you use to flush with the muffs. And the 15-20 second time interval you mention....from the time that you turn on the water? or from the time that you start the motor? And by tailpipe, you mean the prop hub? or the telltale?

I switch on the water and it usually runs for a few minutes through the ear muffs, I then start the motor and look for water coming out of the pilot water hole. This is what takes 15-20 secs to come out. The suzuki engineers in the past have told me it takes 18 litres of water to pump through first before it comes out the pilot water hole.

They like really strong water pressure in the muffs. And, use the dual-feed muffs, not the ones where the hose goes on one side.

Having said that, i do all the above and it typicaly takes 15-20 seconds for water to stream solidly out of the telltale on my DF115.

I wouldnt worry too much if I were you. Just note the above points.
