DT60 Water not pumping through

Hi guys

I have a 83/84 dt60 - I have replaced the impeller & checked - there are no blockages, but there is no water pumping out the exhaust port at the back or the tell tale (piss valve) on the side. Please help

can we assume that there was water flow before you changed impeller?
If so.. I think you need to drop the lower unit and double check all the parts
i have a 175 and there is a water piple that runs from the pump through the mid unit to the power head.. if yours also has that part douple check the end grommets and be sure they are corrected up correctly at both ends
about the only reason I can think you are not getting any water to the power head..

I'm having the same issue on my dt85. It was not peeing so I changed the impeller. Still not peeing. When I had the lower unit off I put the hose to the tube and water came out of pee hole. I'm going to remove lower unit again tomorrow. What should I look for? Could it be a thermostat? Or more likely the grommets not sealing? Thanks in advance.

dt 60 not pumping water

Think I would make sure the key for the impeller didn't slide out when re-assembled. Also that the water tube with grommets seated into the water pump housing correctly.
Let us know what you find.

I checked the thermostat and found that somebody prior had replaced it with an automotive thermostat that is rated for 195°. Which is about 100° hotter than what is supposed to be in there. However this didn't solve the issue. I started the engine with the thermostat and housing removed to see if water was even getting up that far, and nothing. I have ordered a new thermostat,gasket,both grommets for the pickup tube, and a head gasket, just in case I have to pull that too. I am anxiously waiting for the parts to get here.

Parts came in finally. Installed new bushings on water tube, new thermostat, and verified impeller key was installed. Still no water pumping. I ran hose into hole where thermostat goes and it was leaking out of prop, and pee hole which I expected, but it was also leaking where the lower unit and midsection bolt together. Could it be that its not getting enough water with the muffs? I have the dual feed muffs. Grrr.

It must be something. Is it possible you installed the base plate, under the water pump upside down, where the pickup slot is on the wrong side?
Is it possible that corrosion has deteriorated the housing between the exhaust and water pump under the stainless base plate? Are there any grommets between the exhaust and under the water pump that would allow exhaust pressure to block water pump pickup?
If exhaust pressure is pushing water back, then the pump can't get water to send up.
Let us here know what you find.

I took it to the lake, crossed my fingers, and fired it up.... it started pissing like 19 year old after drinking a twelve pack. Apparently the muffs, even the good double sided premium ones do not supply enough water. Thanks for all the suggestions. Now to figure out where this one wire is broke off of.....

Running on muffs with my DF70, I had to cover the extra holes with duct tape to allow water to pump all the way through so it would not overheat. I tried it with duct tape of course after taking off the thermostat and pressure valve covers confirming there were no blockages.

My old DF50 would run fine on muffs and no extra tape... Just a different design with the DF60/70

if you are talking about the steel wire connected to the midsection or lower unit in the front, its just a grounding strap. I think its there to impede corrosion from electrolosis or something but I would reconnect it if its broken because you want to help keep corrosion at bay best you can. there is another one from the swivel bracket on top of the midsection to the engine mounting bracket as well

No, that one is broken too, but the one I was talking about is coming out of the main harness. Its solid black so looking at the schematic I'm thinking its a ground wire.I'm just not sure if it matters what its grounded to.

it shouldn't matter as long as its a solid ground connection to the block.

on mine (DF40/DF50) all grounds are connected to the same main ground lug on the motor found next to the starter
