  • 2006 DF140 starting random starting problem

Hi all I have a good one for you. I have a random engine starting problem that occurs hot and cold. When I turn the key it beeps, fuel pump can be heard, everything lights up and works, but when turning the key to start nothing happens. Hear nothing. I have cleaned every connection on the motor and battery, I replaced the neutral safety switch (just in case) . So, when it happens, I take a screw driver and tap things. It seems that when I tap the ecm unit it starts, not sure if that is a fluke or not. One time when it started after tapping things it the started sounded weird.
Because this doesn't happen all the time, I am not sure bringing it to the mariner will help find the problem. Does anyone know what it could be. Could it be the ECM, or a bad starter or a starter selinoid?
After it starts, it will start over and over again until you run it a long time and then it is a crap shoot if it works or not.
Confused and frustrated, can anyone help???????

George look up my DF175 start problems from the past. I had a bad connection in the harness , repaired it and was good. I went nuts trying to find it. The harness splits near the front into a couple of smaller taped harnesses , find that. Then feel for bumps in the harness , those are 2 into 1 wire conections . I found a bad connection there and replaced it and that fixed the issue of start / not start. The next problem was the wire up to the starter. + Battery cable and pink wire . Pink wire had a weak connection that was a problem also the main wire "white with 10amp fuse " form battery connection to the ecm . That has gone bad for many of us . Good luck , problems such as that can be hard to find at times and costly at the dealer.
